Is Pastor Wright the New Britney Spears?

For the past two weeks, it’s been non-stop Barack Obama and Pastor Wright. The media has fixated on some “snippets” taken from a speech and without the whole context of the speech, the snippets are meaningless. Hillary Clinton stated that she would have left Pastor Wright’s church however, it was the Pastor Wright that prayed with Bill Clinton for forgiveness after the Monica Lewinsky event. Hillary may not have wanted to attend Pastor Wright’s church but he was certainly welcomed in the White House.

The news keeps bringing up the racist comments. How strange that the media will focus on a few words from Pastor Wright and remain silent when Ann Coulter suggests that a Supreme Court Justice be poisoned. It’s okay for whites to make racist remarks about blacks. It’s been happening for years. When a black speaks up in anger about being treated with disrespect his whole life, it’s a different matter. The media wants to ruminate over it just like it ruminates over every appearance and every movement of Britney Spears. Remember the “Runaway Bride” story? That lasted for weeks. The media would rather obsess over nonsense then address the war in Iraq or Afghanistan or our forgotten veterans. These stories would require real journalism and today’s reporter’s just don’t have the skills, knowledge and ambition to report on more serious matters. No, today’s media is all about “flashy” stories.

How come the media is NOT ruminating about how John McCain courted the support of Rev. Hagee? You know, the very Reverend that called Catholics “satanists”, the very Reverend that supports Isreal for the sole purpose of Jews converting to Christianity, the very Reverend that calls for a nuclear holocaust in the Middle East that will kill millions of innocent children, women, PREGNANT women, and men so that the “Rapture” can happen. Rev. Hagee has followers that will do anything in their power to bring on the “Rapture”. This is dangerous because it effects the lives of millions of people.

Reverend Hagee’s followers call themselve Christians and yet cannot live by the words of Jesus (Joshua). They are more concerned about gays getting married and Pastor Wright’s justified words of anger then they are about following the road to Jesus. This would require that they feed the hungry, clothe the poor, give shelter to the homeless, and love others. No, instead they hate and spew anger. It is said that Jesus told his disciples to not judge others yet Reverend Hagee’s followers believe it is their duty to do just that. This is the man that John McCain sought for an endorsement, a so-called Christian that doesn’t follow the teachings of his Christ.

Pastor Wright just spoke words of anger, justified anger and he will forever pay for his words even though millions of people will not die because of what he said. As a woman, I understand feeling disenfranchised just because of my gender. However, I will never know what it feels like to be stopped by the police just because of the color of my skin, I will never know what it feels like to have people cross the street because of the color of my skin, I will never know what it feels like to be told that I can’t eat in a restaurant or use the bathroom because of the color of my skin, I will never know what it feels like to see someone I love hanging by their neck from a tree because of the color of their skin and I will never know what it feels like to hear that someone that I loved was left to die on the side of the road because of the color of their skin. No, I will never experience any of that. Pastor Wright has. He understands what it means to have people judge him by the color of his skin.
Enough of my rant…
