Republicans are the “economic royalists”. A note to the Tea Party, you will be left out in the streets, too, if Republicans gain control of Congress. These economic royalists don’t give a rat’s behind about you. The Tea Party members are nothing more than tools for these economic royalists.
Yes, the middle class has been disappearing. It started with the Reagan years when the tax code was written with breaks for specific companies. Some corporations received huge tax breaks while others had their taxes increased. It was described as “trickle down” economics which actually started to gush money to the top 5% of Americans. At the same time, the middle class, ever so slightly, began to diminish.
The economy had ups and downs over the years following the Reagan bandits (Savings and Loan bailouts) while the middle class continued to lose ground. During his presidency, George H. W. Bush made an announcement that we are now a “global economy”.
Next came NAFTA which was signed into law by President Bill Clinton. The idea of NAFTA was born during the George H.W. Bush years and it was Ross Perot that brought the voters attention to NAFTA and “the sucking sound” of jobs leaving this country. President Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law and American companies began building factories in Mexico. This creation of manufacturing jobs in Mexico gave Mexicans the opportunity to earn a living wage. Over the years, these same corporations that provided a living wage kept lowering the wages of Mexicans to the point where jobs in Mexico are now poverty jobs in sweat shops. This decrease in income has fueled the drug cartels and has increased violent crime along the Mexican border. That’s a story for another time.
So far, we have special tax breaks for specific corporations and NAFTA. Then in the year 2000, the US Supreme Court appointed the rich man’s tool as president, George W. Bush. His appointment accelerated the loss of jobs by providing tax incentives for corporations to send jobs overseas. How unAmerican and unpatriotic. The Bush administration also lowered taxes for the top 5% of Americans, the very rich, while keeping taxes high for middle class Americans. Along with two wars, the Bush tax cuts created a huge Government deficit at the expense of middle class Americans. Since the birth of Reaganomics, the wages of the middle class have slowly declined or remained stagnant.
Here are 22 statistics proving the decline of the middle class…
#1) According to a poll taken in 2009, 61 percent of Americans “always or usually” live paycheck to paycheck, which was up from 49 percent in 2008 and 43 percent in 2007.
#2) The number of Americans with incomes below the official poverty line rose by about 15% between 2000 and 2006, and by 2008 over 30 million U.S. workers were earning less than $10 per hour.
#3) According to Harvard Magazine, 66% of the income growth between 2001 and 2007 went to the top 1% of all Americans.
#4) According to that same poll, 36 percent of Americans say that they don’t contribute anything to retirement savings.
#5) A staggering 43 percent of Americans have less than $10,000 saved up for retirement.
#6) According to one new survey, 24% of American workers say that they have postponed their planned retirement age in the past year.
#7) Over 1.4 million Americans filed for personal bankruptcy in 2009, which represented a 32 percent increase over 2008.
#8) Only the top 5 percent of U.S. households have earned enough additional income to match the rise in housing costs since 1975.
#9) For the first time in U.S. history, banks own a greater share of residential housing net worth in the United States than all individual Americans put together.
#10) In 1950, the ratio of the average executive’s paycheck to the average worker’s paycheck was about 30 to 1. Since the year 2000, that ratio has exploded to between 300 to 500 to one.

The negative effects of the Bush years washed over from 2008 into 2009. It took eight years to destroy our economy and it will take at least eight years if not more to repair the damage done by the Bush administration.
President Obama’s stimulus package included a reduction in taxes for 95% of Americans. As a member of this 95% grouping, I received a tax refund this year, the first one in many years. My taxes increased during the Reagan years and this is my first tax break since then.
Trickle down economics is a joke on the American people. It only increases the income for the top 5% while the rest of us struggle.
One more thing about the George W. Bush years, job creation remained stagnant. For the first time in over 20 years, there were no job increases. As a matter of fact, by the end of the Bush years, the job losses were on the rise and at the same time, the rich continued to get richer.
What is the Republican plan for job creation? The Republicans still stand by their “trickle down” economics theory and they insist on continuing tax breaks for the rich while at the same time providing no tax breaks for the middle class. If given the opportunity, the Republicans would repeal the Obama tax breaks for the middle class. Don’t be fooled by their rhetoric because Republicans don’t have the welfare of the middle class in mind when they speak. It’s all about Wall Street, big banks and corporations with them.
Trickle down economics… how is that working for you? It’s working for the quitter, Sarah Palin and the cult leader Glenn Beck. It’s not working for their followers and their followers are like the Branch Davidians or Heaven’s Gate. They will do anything that their leaders, Beck and Palin, tell them to do, just like puppets on a string. These money machines (Beck and Palin) are only interested in increasing their income, not yours.
Tom Corbett joined ranks with Sharron Angle and other Republicans in condemning workers that have lost their jobs and are unable to find jobs. The statistics are 1 job for every 6 workers so get in line and hope for the best.
Statement From Jim Burn, Chairman Of The Pennsylvania Democratic Party Regarding Tom Corbett’s Remarks On Unemployed Pennsylvanians
Pittsburgh: Tom Corbett’s insensitive and callous remarks claiming many unemployed Pennsylvanians “are purposefully remaining unemployed in order to collect benefits“, demonstrates how out of touch he is with the working families of our Commonwealth. Since becoming the Republican candidate for Governor, Tom Corbett has continually taken positions that lead on to believe he lives in a different Pennsylvania than the rest of us.
In Tom Corbett’s Pennsylvania there is no need for unemployment benefits because there are plenty of jobs for everyone. In Tom Corbett’s Pennsylvania there is no need for healthcare reform because the current healthcare system is working just fine. In Tom Corbett’s Pennsylvania we don’t need millions of dollars of federal stimulus money because we don’t need jobs and our roads, bridges and schools don’t need improvement. Hanging-out at fundraisers with oil and gas company executives, Wall Street bankers and other wealthy Republican contributors, Tom Corbett sees a different Pennsylvania than the rest of us.
Tom Corbett needs to visit the Pennsylvania we live in and immediately apologize the unemployed workers he insulted with his inconsiderate remarks.
Even the Republicans that are out of work are complaining about the Republicans in Washington that have denied the current unemployment benefit extension. It must be nice to have a job in Washington DC with a salary and benefits paid for by taxpayers.

The Tea Party candidates don’t care about these lazy Republicans. Put a Tea Party member in Congress and it will only get worse because they also want to dismantle Social Security.
Don’t let them fool you because the Tea Party and Republicans are the “death panel” parties.
Don’t let the Tea Party and Republicans make you feel demoralized. Get out and vote in November and vote Democratic because your life depends upon it.
Ever wonder what happened to Reid “The Shoe Bomber”? Here’s what the judge said at sentencing… (verified by Snopes)
January 30, 2003, United States vs. Reid.
Judge Young: ‘Mr. Richard C. Reid, hearken now to the sentence the Court imposes upon you.
On counts 1, 5 and 6 the Court sentences you to life in prison in the custody of the United States Attorney General. On counts 2, 3, 4 and 7, the Court sentences you to 20 years in prison on each count, the sentence on each count to run consecutively. (That’s 80 years.)
On count 8 the Court sentences you to the mandatory 30 years again, to be served consecutively to the 80 years just imposed. The Court imposes upon you for each of the eight counts a fine of $250,000 that’s an aggregate fine of $2 million. The Court accepts the government’s recommendation with respect to restitution and orders restitution in the amount of $298.17 to Andre Bousquet and $5,784 to American Airlines.
The Court imposes upon you an $800 special assessment. The Court imposes upon you five years supervised release simply because the law requires it. But the life sentences are real life sentences so I need go no further.
This is the sentence that is provided for by our statutes. It is a fair and just sentence. It is a righteous sentence.
Now, let me explain this to you. We are not afraid of you or any of your terrorist co-conspirators, Mr. Reid. We are Americans. We have been through the fire before. There is too much war talk here and I say that to everyone with the utmost respect. Here in this court, we deal with individuals as individuals and care for individuals as individuals. As human beings, we reach out for justice.
You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call you a soldier, gives you far too much stature. Whether the officers of government do it or your attorney does it, or if you think you are a soldier, you are not —– you are a terrorist. And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We do not meet with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists. We hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice.
So war talk is way out of line in this court. You are a big fellow But you are not that big. You’re no warrior. I’ve known warriors. You are a terrorist. A species of criminal that is guilty of multiple attempted murders. In a very real sense, State Trooper Santiago had it right when you first were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the press and the TV crews were, and he said: ‘You’re no big deal.’
You are no big deal.
What your able counsel and what the equally able United States attorneys have grappled with and what I have as honestly as I know how tried to grapple with, is why you did something so horrific. What was it that led
you here to this courtroom today?
I have listened respectfully to what you have to say. And I ask you to search your heart and ask yourself what sort of unfathomable hate led you to do what you are guilty and admit you are guilty of doing? And, I have an answer for you. It may not satisfy you, but as I search this entire record, it comes as close to understanding as I know.
It seems to me you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You hate our freedom. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as we choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we individually choose. Here, in this society, the very wind carries freedom. It carries it everywhere from sea to shining sea. It is because we prize individual freedom so much that you are here in this beautiful courtroom, so that everyone can see, truly see, that justice is administered fairly, individually, and discretely. It is for freedom’s sake that your lawyers are striving so vigorously on your behalf, have filed appeals, will go on in their representation of you before other judges.
We Americans are all about freedom. Because we all know that the way we treat you, Mr. Reid, is the measure of our own liberties. Make no mistake though. It is yet true that we will bear any burden; pay any price, to Preserve our freedoms. Look around this courtroom Mark it well. The world is not going to long remember what you or I say here. The day after tomorrow, it will be forgotten, but this, however, will long endure.
Here in this courtroom and courtrooms all across America , the American people will gather to see that justice, individual justice, justice, not war, individual justice is in fact being done. The very President of the United States through his officers will have to come into courtrooms and lay out evidence on which specific matters can be judged and juries of citizens will gather to sit and judge that evidence democratically, to
mold and shape and refine our sense of justice.
See that flag, Mr. Reid? That’s the flag of the United States of America . That flag will fly there long after this is all forgotten. That flag Stands for freedom. And it always will.
Mr. Custody Officer. Stand him down.
So, how much of this Judge’s comments did we hear on our TV sets? We need more judges like Judge Young. Pass this around. Everyone should and needs to hear what this fine judge had to say. Powerful words that strike home.

What’s interesting about this is that the tea baggers and the Republicans have their knickers in a knot because they are afraid of letting our justice system work. They don’t trust our justice system and by denying a trial in a criminal court of law to these terrorists, they elevate the terrorist to one of a soldier. These terrorists are scum and we should never give them the honor of being considered soldiers. Bring it on… bring them to trial and to justice. May they spend their lives in a high security prison just like Reid. If we can keep serial killers behind bars (very scary people), then we can certainly keep terrorists behinds bars. After all, these terrorists are no worse then serial killers.
Will Republicans deny Seniors health care? Will Republicans deny fair payment to doctors? Probably. If it’s not Wall Street, big banks or oil/gas companies, then Republicans don’t care. You must be rich enough to get Republican support.
More from the Whitehouse.gov
Republicans hate regulation so they will do anything and everything to dismantle regulations. According to the Republican philosophy, we don’t need to regulation green house gases. And Pat Toomey, the “Wall Street Warrior”, while serving on the House Banking Committee, helped write a resolution which lead to the repeal of parts of the Glass-Steagall Act that protected American’s financial investments.
Toomey’s first order of business as a freshman congressman: getting some good committee work. His Wall Street credentials—as well as the Republican majority—helped him score a seat on the House Banking Committee, where he sits on the Capital Markets, Securities and Government Sponsored Enterprises subcommittee as well as the Domestic and International Monetary Policy subcommittee. Toomey has already helped draft House Resolution 10, a proposal to roll back some of the Glass-Steagall legislation of the 1930s. Not surprisingly, Toomey is virulently opposed to unnecessary regulation. “The trend in deregulation, beginning in the early 1980s, is one of the biggest reasons for the sustained economic expansion,” he says. “I would like to see us continue to deregulate on many fronts, including the financial services industry.”
And what of the much-ballyhooed hedge fund regulation talk emanating from Washington lately? “It’s not clear to me that the problem with Long-Term Capital Management requires new regulation,” he says. “I think we need to continue to work on understanding what really happened there and what the magnitude of the threat to the infrastructure of our financial services industry was. Frankly, I think that the outcome was appropriate. The equity investors lost everything—and under the circumstances that had to happen—but the bailout essentially worked. I would be very leery about, and I will resist, any effort to impose inappropriate regulations as a knee-jerk reaction to what was a big problem but was essentially solved.”
Read more about Toomey and his Wall Street connections here.
The bottom line is this: Republicans are against regulations (Banks, Oil/Gas Industries). However, when deregulation creates problems (Bank Failures, Oil/Gas accidents, pollution), then Republicans want the taxpayers to bailout the banks and pay for the environmental clean up.
Pat Toomey is just another Republican that supports deregulation and he would have voted “Yea”, in favor of the bank bailouts. After all, Toomey would not have wanted to place any hardships on his friends in the banking industry or on Wall Street.
Had to share this article from Frank Schaeffer. Pennsylvania For Change still supports our President. No sniping here.
Frank Schaeffer is a New York Times best selling author.
Obama Will Triumph — So Will America
By Frank Schaeffer
Before he’d served even one year President Obama lost the support of the easily distracted left and engendered the white hot rage of the hate-filled right. But some of us, from all walks of life and ideological backgrounds — including this white, straight, 57-year-old, former religious right wing agitator, now progressive writer and (given my background as the son of a famous (evangelical leader) this unlikely Obama supporter — are sticking with our President. Why?– because he is succeeding.
We faithful Obama supporters still trust our initial impression of him as a great, good and uniquely qualified man to lead us. Obama’s steady supporters will be proved right. Obama’s critics will be remembered as easily panicked and prematurely discouraged at best and shriveled hate mongers at worst.
The Context of the Obama Presidency
Not since the days of the rise of fascism in Europe , the Second World War and the Depression has any president faced more adversity. Not since the Civil War has any president led a more bitterly divided country. Not since the introduction of racial integration has any president faced a more consistently short-sighted and willfully ignorant opposition – from both the right and left. As the President’s poll numbers have fallen so has his support from some on the left that were hailing him as a Messiah not long ago; all those lefty websites and commentators that were falling all over themselves on behalf of our first black president during the 2008 election. The left’s lack of faith has become a self-fulfilling “prophecy”– snipe at the President and then watch the poll numbers fall and then pretend you didn’t have anything to do with it!
Here is what Obama faced when he took office–none of which was his fault:
- An ideologically divided country to the point that America was really two countries
- Two wars; one that was mishandled from the start, the other that was unnecessary and immoral
- The worst economic crisis since the depression
- America ‘s standing in the world at the lowest point in history/li>
- A country that had been misled into accepting the use of torture of prisoners of war
- A health care system in free fall
- An educational system in free fall
- A global environmental crisis of history-altering proportions (about which the Bush administration and the Republicans had done nothing)
- An impasse between culture warriors from the right and left
- A huge financial deficit inherited from the terminally irresponsible Bush administration.
And those were only some of the problems sitting on the President’s desk!“Help” from the Right?
What did the Republicans and the religious right, libertarians and half-baked conspiracy theorists — that is what the Republicans were reduced to by the time Obama took office — do to “help” our new president (and our country) succeed? They claimed that he wasn’t a real American, didn’t have an American birth certificate, wasn’t born here, was secretly a Muslim, was white-hating “racist”, was secretly a communist, was actually the Anti-Christ, (!) and was a reincarnation of Hitler and wanted “death panels” to kill the elderly!
They not-so-subtly called for his assassination through the not-so-subtle use of vile signs held at their rallies and even a bumper sticker quoting Psalm 109:8. They organized “tea parties” to sound off against imagined insults and all government in general and gathered to howl at the moon. They were led by insurance industry lobbyists and deranged (but well financed) “commentators” from Glenn Beck to Rush Limbaugh.
The utterly discredited Roman Catholic bishops teamed up with the utterly discredited evangelical leaders to denounce a president who was trying to actually do something about the poor, the environment, to diminish the number of abortions through compassionate programs to help women and to care for the sick! And in Congress the Republican leadership only knew one word: “No!”
In other words the reactionary white, rube, uneducated, crazy American far right,combined with the educated but obtuse neoconservative war mongers, religious right shills for big business, libertarian Fed Reserve-hating gold bug, gun-loving crazies, child-molesting acquiescent “bishops”, frontier loons and evangelical gay-hating flakes found one thing to briefly unite them: their desire to stop an uppity black man from succeeding at all costs!
“Help” from the Left?
What did the left do to help their newly elected president? Some of them excoriated the President because they disagreed with the bad choices he was being forced to make regarding a war in Afghanistan that he’d inherited from the worst president in modern history! Others stood up and bravely proclaimed that the President’s economic policies had “failed” before the President even instituted them! Others said that since all gay rights battles had not been fully won within virtually minutes of the President taking office, they’d been “betrayed”! (Never mind that Obama’s vocal support to the gay community is stronger than any other president’s has been. Never mind that he signed a new hate crimes law!)
Those that had stood in transfixed legions weeping with beatific emotion on election night turned into an angry mob saying how “disappointed” they were that they’d not all immediately been translated to heaven the moment Obama stepped into the White House! Where was the “change”? Contrary to their expectations they were still mere mortals! And the legion of young new supporters was too busy texting to pay attention for longer than a nanosecond. “Governing”?! What the hell does that word, uh, like mean?”
The President’s critics left and right all had one thing in common: impatience laced with little-to-no sense of history (let alone reality) thrown in for good measure. Then of course there were the white, snide know-it-all commentators/talking heads who just couldn’t imagine that maybe, just maybe they weren’t as smart as they thought they were and certainly not as smart as their president. He hadn’t consulted them, had he? So he must be wrong! The Obama critics’ ideological ideas defined their idea of reality rather than reality defining their ideas-say, about what is possible in one year in office after the hand that the President had been dealt by fate, or to be exact by the American idiot nation that voted Bush into office. twice!
Meanwhile back in the reality-based community – in just 12 short months — President Obama:
- Thoughtfully and decisively picked the best of several bad choices regarding the war in Afghanistan (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Gave a major precedent-setting speech supporting gay rights (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Restored America ‘s image around the globe (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Banned torture of American prisoners (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Stopped the free fall of the American economy (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Put the USA squarely back in the bilateral international community (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Put the USA squarely into the middle of the international effort to halt global warming (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Stood up for educational reform (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Won a Nobel peace prize (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Moved the trial of terrorists back into the American judicial system of checks and balances (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Did what had to be done to start the slow, torturous and almost impossible process of health care reform that 7 presidents had failed to even begin (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Responded to hatred from the right and left with measured good humor and patience (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Stopped the free fall of job losses (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Showed immense personal courage in the face of an armed and dangerous far right opposition that included the sort of disgusting people that show up at public meetings carrying loaded weapons and carrying Timothy McVeigh-inspired signs about the “blood of tyrants” needing to “water the tree of liberty”. (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
- Showed that he could not only make the tough military choices but explain and defend them brilliantly (But that wasn’t good enough for his critics)
Other than those “disappointing” accomplishments — IN ONE YEAR — President Obama “failed”! Other than that he didn’t “live up to expectations”!
Who actually has failed…..are the Americans that can’t see the beginning of a miracle of national rebirth right under their jaded noses. Who failed are the smart ass ideologues of the left and right who began rooting for this President to fail so that they could be proved right in their dire and morbid predictions. Who failed are the movers and shakers behind our obscenely dumb news cycles that have turned “news” into just more stupid entertainment for an entertainment-besotted infantile country.
Here’s the good news: President Obama is succeeding without the help of his lefty “supporters” or hate-filled Republican detractors!
The Future Looks Good. After Obama has served two full terms, (and he will), after his wisdom in moving deliberately and cautiously with great subtlety on all fronts — with a canny and calculating eye to the possible succeeds, (it will), after the economy is booming and new industries are burgeoning, (they will be), after the doomsayers are all proved not just wrong but silly: let the record show that not all Americans were panicked into thinking the sky was falling. Just because we didn’t get everything we wanted in the first short and fraught year Obama was in office not all of us gave up. Some of us stayed the course. And we will be proved right.
PS. if you agree that Obama is shaping up to be a great president, please pass this on and hang in there! Pass it on anyway to ensure that his “report card” gets the attention it deserves.
Yikes! Pat Toomey hates seniors. He is against health care reform which will begin to close the doughnut hole in Medicare Part D and make medications cheaper. Pat Toomey wants seniors to pay more for their drugs.
Here’s more on the “Real Pat Toomey“.
Pat Toomey hates American workers. He would prefer to send our jobs overseas.
- Toomey argued free trade would create jobs, while acknowledging that workers might be “displaced.” While Toomey supported free trade policies so that American products could be bought in global markets, he also acknowledged that American workers would be “displaced” and should receive help. “It’s very important for jobs in the Lehigh Valley,” Toomey said. “Lucent can export more chips, Air Products can sell more gas and chemicals overseas, and it means Victualic can sell more overseas.” [Morning Call, 12/5/99, 1/21/00]
The Republican candidate for Governor will be filing a frivolous lawsuit against the US Government. Attorney General Tom Corbett will be joining other Republican AG’s in wasting taxpayers’ money on a frivolous lawsuit. Republicans support “torte reform” only until lawsuits benefit them.
Pennsylvania’s budget is stressed and instead of funding education and fighting crime, AG Tom Corbett wants to waste tax dollars filing a lawsuit that does NOT represent the best interest of Pennsylvanians. This waste of tax payers money could lessen the amount of money available for programs for seniors such as Meals on Wheels. Can you imagine? Taking food out of granny’s mouth so that Republicans can sue the Government.
Now a little bit about what AG Tom Corbett wants to hand back to the Insurance companies…
- Re-instate pre-existing condition exclusions for children in all new plans;
- Remove immediate access to insurance for uninsured Americans who are uninsured because of a pre-existing condition;
- Re-allow dropping people from coverage when they get sick in all individual plans;
- Increase seniors’ prescription drug prices by re-opening the donut hole;
- Remove tax credits to small businesses for purchasing coverage;
- Re-establish lifetime limits and re-establish annual limits on benefits in all plans;
- Remove coverage for an enrollee’s dependent children the age of 18;
- Re-establish high co-pays for preventive services and immunizations. Re-establish cost sharing for these services.
- Remove consumers access to an effective internal and external appeals process to appeal new insurance plan decisions;
- Prevent premium rebates to enrollees from insurers with high administrative expenditures and prevent public disclosure of the percent of premiums applied to overhead costs.
If AG Tom Corbett wins, then Pennsylvanians lose. In other words, AG Tom Corbett wants to deny Pennsylvanians these benefits…
- Prohibit pre-existing condition exclusions for children in all new plans;
- Provide immediate access to insurance for uninsured Americans who are uninsured because of a pre-existing condition through a temporary high-risk pool;
- Prohibit dropping people from coverage when they get sick in all individual plans;
- Lower seniors’ prescription drug prices by beginning to close the donut hole;
- Offer tax credits to small businesses to purchase coverage;
- Eliminate lifetime limits and restrictive annual limits on benefits in all plans;
- Require plans to cover an enrollee’s dependent children until age 26;
- Require new plans to cover preventive services and immunizations without cost-sharing;
- Ensure consumers have access to an effective internal and external appeals process to appeal new insurance plan decisions;
- Require premium rebates to enrollees from insurers with high administrative expenditures and require public disclosure of the percent of premiums applied to overhead costs.
If Attorney General Tom Corbett, who is fully owned by Corporations, Wall Street and the Insurance Companies, wins, then Pennsylvanians lose.
UPDATE: Tell AG Tom Corbett that he does not represent your views on HCR here…
