The Leader of the PAC

Looks like Rush “Porkulus” Limbaugh is the official leader of the Conservative Republicans.  This is a branch of the GOP that embraces wholeheartedly, the failed Reagan economic policies.  These members live in the past.  If the year was 1776, we would recognize them as “Loyalists“.

Tom Watson from the Huffington Post… has this to say:

If there’s any doubt that the GOP’s own Paulie Walnuts  is now firmly in command of the Party of Lincoln, the “breaking news” style coverage of Limbaugh’s bellow-cose rant dispelled the notion. CNN, for one, went wide – with the kind of uninterrupted live footage usually reserved for Presidents and Popes, followed by a panel of analysts to weigh and consider the import of the speech to this republic of ours. There were other dancers on the stage, to be sure – including Ward Connerly, Ann Coulter, Phyllis Schlafly and Karl Rove – but only Limbaugh’s hour-long ramble (he went over by 30 minutes) garnered opposition leader status. “As the movement searches for a front-and-center spokesman to provide inspiration and direction, Limbaugh’s refusal to tilt toward the center may place him out front in a Republican Party already suffering from a disappearing moderate wing,” wrote Tom Schaller in Salon.

It’s a sad state of affairs when the Republican Conservatives choose  a show biz, undereducated narcissist to lead them over the abyss.  Get out of their way.  Just bring the popcorn, sit back and watch them implode.

Rush Limbaugh is no Ben Franklin.  Rush lacks curiousity whereas Franklin was curious about everything.

Additional comment:

Porkulus is a phony word just like Limbaugh is a phony leader.  He is a coward that didn’t have the courage to serve our nation during the Vietnam war unlike his father who served in WWII.  The word porkulus is a proper description for someone like Rush.  Someone that only cares about himself and the big money that he makes while inciting people to hate Americans.  Another description for Rush would be anti-American or anti-Patriot.  He would have been known as a “Loyalist” which is the opposite of a Patriot.  No wonder he doesn’t know the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution.  A Loyalist would only understand loyalty to a king and in Rush’s case the king is Ronald Reagan.

In the Name of God

Many Gods, which one shall I choose?
Many Gods, which one shall I choose?

When it comes to gay rights and abortion rights and refusal of medical treatment based on one’s religion beliefs, it’s the old Government vs Religion issue. My question is “which religion and whose religion” has the most control? The authors of the Constitution knew exactly what they were doing when they kept religion OUT of the Constitution. When our Constitution was going through ratification by the 13 original states, there was a group of delegates to the Massachusetts state convention that complained that the “Constitution did not recognize the existence of God”.

It was a wise group of delegates that attended the Constitutional Convention held in Philadelphia during the summer of 1787. They were well aware that religion and politics did not mix. Right after the arrival of independence, every state but Rhode Island passed laws depriving Catholics of full civil and religious rights. There were some states that denied Catholics the right to carry their own arms while everyone else was allowed to do so. Even though Catholics were given the same rights of freedom to worship as they believed by the Constitution, it wasn’t until 1960 that a Catholic was elected President of the United States of America. When John F. Kennedy was running for President, the media was filled with questions about his religion and its connection to the Pope in Rome. There was a fear that America would be governed by the Pope if John Kennedy was elected President.

For the last 8 years, we have had to put up with this quest by the fundamentalists to be governed by religion. Do take note that this religion has to be the fundamentalist/evangelical religions as preached by religious leaders such as James Dobson and Rick Warren. The Rev. Wright is NOT included in this because he is black and I’m not even going to go there at this moment. There is no room in this religious governing for Catholics, Muslims, Hindus, Jews, Agnostics and any other religion that isn’t part of the Dobson/Warren cults.

Let’s not forget our nation’s shameful history of mixing religion and politics. It was during the McCarthy reign of terror in the 1950’s that the statement “under God” was added to the Pledge of Allegiance. People didn’t complain because anyone that spoke against including religion in our government, was called a communist and would be blacklisted. In 1692, there were the Salem witch hunts and trials.  Even slave owners would quote the Bible as justification for owning slaves.

We were witness to the destruction of religious intolerance on September 11, 2001 and today, the Palestinians are paying with their lives because of the religious intolerance of Israel.  There is a place for everything and history has taught us that religion does not have a place in government.  Too many people and other creatures have lost their lives in the “name of God”.

Elections Politics Vote Voting

Will your vote be counted?

Will your vote be counted?
Will your vote be counted?

Or will your vote be among the “missing” votes. We will lose our freedoms and our democracy not by guns, bombs and cannons, but by not having our votes counted.

Voting is protected by our Constitution and it is our right and responsibility to vote. When South Africa did away with Apartheid, many South Africans walked for days and waited in line for many hours so that they could cast their vote for the first time. We Americans take our right to vote for granted. In a non-presidential year, only 20% to 30% of eligible voters vote. That percentage increases to about 70% for a presidential election. In 1992 and 2004, the percentage rose to approximately 80%. Seems like the “Bush” family brings out voters.

In 2000 and 2004, voters were turned away or illegally removed from the ballot in both Florida and Ohio. Just the other day, a voter was arrested in Missouri because he refused to show a picture ID when he went to vote. Then there is the incident where the 90 year old nuns were turned away in Illinois because they didn’t have the proper ID. Many places in Europe do not require that a voter register to vote. The voting sites have lists of names with the eligible voters and this is what is used for voter verification. In Australia, the law requires that every eligible voter votes otherwise they receive a fine from their government.

The United States makes it difficult to vote. Every state has its own set of voting rules. This is wrong. Voting should be regulated on the national level because every vote, even for local candidates, has an impact on the nation as a whole. There should be one set of general guidelines for voting. One that prohibits states from creating impediments to voting and election day should be a national holiday.

So what happens when one finally does manage to get to the voting machine and cast their ballot? Will it be counted? With the electronic computerized voting machines, there is a great danger that votes will not be counted or changed by a hacker. Watch the trailer to “Stealing America“. It happened before and it can happen again. We must demand accountability in our voting system otherwise we will lose our democracy.
