The American Way

President Lyndon Johnson, Democrat, believed that the American way was to pass socialized medicine for people 65 and older. Prior to becoming president, Ronald Reagan spoke against Medicare. He believed that older Americans did not deserve socialized medicine and when he became president, he got the ball rolling to dismantle government. Ever since the days of Reagan, the Republicans have been working to eliminate socialized medicine for the elderly and if President George W. Bush had his way, Social Security would have tanked along with the rest of the IRA’s and 401K’s last fall.

It amazes me that there are people on Medicare and Medicaid screaming and protesting at town hall meetings this summer. They object to other Americans receiving “socialized” medicine and at the same time they are unwilling to give up their “socialized” medicine. That’s not the American way.

  1. Hi Cats – Mike Enzi and Chuck Grassley are two deceitful Republican asses. They are responsible for developing a workable compromise on health-care reform with the Democrats but Grassley’s fundraising letter that was revealed shows that Grassley is running against health-care reform back in Iowa. He is soooo two-faced. Here is his fundraising letter:

“I had to rush you this Air-Gram today to set the record straight on my firm and unwavering opposition to government-run health care. And ask your immediate support in helping me defeat “Obama-care.”

I’m sure you’ve been following this issue closely. If the legislation sponsored by Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the House of Representatives and Chairman Ted Kennedy in the Senate is passed it would be a pathway to a government takeover of the health care system. It would turn over control of your health care decisions to a federal bureaucrat … and take it away from you and your personal physician.

It would mean government rationing in the name of cost controls.”

It seems that when the White House saw this it was like a bucket of ice cold water and they lost all illusions about the Republicans.

President Obama has tried to work with the Republicans time and time again and the Republicans missed several opportunities to do some good work for Americans.
It’s time to move on. It’s time for Democrats to do things the way they were elected to do them and leave the Republicans in their dust.
